THE SCOTTISH COORIE

Never has the home been more important than now, with many more of us working from home, home schooling at home, and generally spending far more time at home than we ever did before.

The concept of “Scottish Coorie”, a growing wellness trend which advocates being cosy and comfortable in your home, and enjoying simple pleasures, especially in the winter months, was taken from the Danish concept of “Hygge” which is intrinsic to their culture. Translated, it means to take the time to slow down, feel cosy, and enjoy simple things with friends and family.

In Scottish Coorie, we have taken the concept further to recommend the embracing of the outdoors too, so a bracing walk in the woods, smoking your own food over a fire, and even wild swimming in a loch, before returning indoors to a cosy tartan blanket, a warm fire, good banter, and a hot chocolate.

We may not be able to mix with friends and family as much as we would like at the moment, but we can all try to make the very most of our homes with a touch of Scottish Coorie. Look at your mood lighting, select some really tactile soft furnishings, and think about the most comfortable sofas and armchairs. And what about installing a log burning stove? Or even a Garden Room outside that can become a cosy winter den?

It’s all about finding the level of Coorie that works for you!
